Introduction to Rug Hooking - April 6, 2021 (online)
Rug hooking is a relaxing, interpretative art form based on the technique of pulling loops of yarn or wool through a backing material.
Join fibre artist, Karen Miller, for this 3 hour workshop on April 6th from 6:30-9:30pmEST in which you will work on your own small rug hooking piece. You will learn everything that you need to know about hooking with yarn; from the materials needed to hook, getting your design on your backing fabric, how to choose yarns for hooking, rug hooking technique and tips, and ideas for finishing your piece. No previous rug hooking experience is required.
Students will need to join the class with the following:
- A rug hook (preferably a medium size)
- A rug hooking or quilting hoop (not an embroidery hoop) that is at least 10”
- A 12” x 12” piece of linen backing material
- A selection of yarns
Karen will provide students at registration with the websites of several online suppliers where they can order these supplies for the class. Please note that the deadline to register for this course is March 23 (so that you have time to get your supplies).
